Celebrating 70 Years of selling headwear.

Published - 16th January, 2017

2017 is a big year for Sharon Lee, with the celebration of their 70th Anniversary selling headwear.

In those 70 years there has been a huge change, not just in the business but also in the wider world.  Sharon Lee has seen the passing of a King (King George VI), a World Cup victory, the first female Prime Minister (Margaret Thatcher) and a massive change in technology.

It all started back in 1947 when Woolf Davis opened his first shop in Westcliffe-on-Sea, Essex, selling novelty headwear to the holiday makers.  Fast forward to the present day and Sharon Lee is situated less than 45 mins from where it all started, in Braintree Essex. They no longer sell the “Kiss Me Quick” hats you see on the seafronts of many British holiday destinations, but instead produce and supply a wide and extensive range of high quality headwear, ranging from your classic promotional options through to retail ready, fashion orientated designs.

With an ever growing team of dedicated staff, the company now includes 7 Tajima 8 head embroidery machines, with the capability of 7000+ embroidered caps per week in house.  There is also a team of 8 account managers ready to take your call and look after all of your headwear needs, from your initial enquiry through to delivery.

Sharon Lee has over 30 years’ experience working with some of the best manufacturers in the Far East, Middle East and Europe; many of these manufacturers have been working with Sharon Lee since their first visit to China back in 1968.

Constant development has kept Sharon Lee at the forefront of the headwear industry. This can be seen in the number of new styles released this year and also in the development of their new website, with some industry changing features available.

Included in the new styles is the C6720 which is one of those caps that has to be seen, or should we say felt, to be believed. With its super soft tactile polyester finish, this is one of their new ranges of Retail Quality headwear, and an area in which the company is heavily investing in over the coming months.

Also included is the C6621 – a product that came about with the need to offer a more sporty style cap. With its Sneaker Mesh (yes the same mesh you will find on your trainers) this cap offers a quality feel with breathable capabilities – ideal for those sports brands.

With winter well and truly set in now Sharon Lee recently introduced 2 new beanies into their expanding range. The S0009 which is a retail quality ribbed knit beanie and the S0020 Super Fine, a circular knit beanie. Both of these offer a huge increase in quality compared to the rest of the stock range.

So what does 2017 have in store for Sharon Lee? Well the inside information suggests that there is a huge amount of development in house across a wide range of ideas, development on the website, a new look stand for the trade shows and of course a large range of new styles coming for Spring/Summer.  Surely 70 years in the headwear industry stands for something, and what Sharon Lee doesn’t know about headwear probably isn’t worth knowing in the first place.
